Animate and control car reflections

Polarising filters allow cinematographers to control reflections, such as those in glass windows and cars’ bodywork.

Using one of the axes on the cPro or Hi-5 wireless lens control hand unit the Cinefade Motorised Polariser can be dynamically controlled and be used to smoothly animate these reflections over time, resulting in moving light streaks. Rotating the polariser over several seconds creates a unique visual effect (watch the video below).

Find out here how automotive director Paul Griffin and DP Caspar Leaver used the Cinefade RotaPola on a shoot for Bentley.

Cinefade Vari360 Upgrade

+ 360° rotation of the RotaPola with the Cinefade Vari360 upgrade allow for continuous light streak effects

+ Built-in 3-axis gyro-sensor compensates camera rotation keeping light streaks steady in position when desired

I could call on the operator to dial in different positions of the polariser to control reflections and animate the effect of the changing polarisation over time. It gives the lush effect of lights moving over the bodywork, bringing out the contours and details in an interesting way.
